Up until the 1960s the rack and pinion railway was the lifeline of the Renon. Today all year round it joins up the localities of Soprabolzano, Costalovara, Stella Renon and Collalbo. In summer, various trails of all difficulties start between the Boé gondola lift and the Vallon chair lift. From family excursions, such as the one to the Boé lake, to high-altitude trekking such as towards the Boé peak and also climbing on cliffs and via ferratas.

In winter, experienced skiers enjoy skiing down the Vallon slope, classified as a black slope, and continuing with the Boé slope.Together they are over 5 kilometers of track with a total height difference of 1,050 meters.

The Cai slope presents itself as a short but very interesting slope, which is divided into two parts. The upper part leads from the Plose over to the Pfannspitz. It lies in the sun all day and is mostly very little used. The second part is something for more demanding skiers: it is the black variant 7a, the so-called "Bärenloch". This slope presents itself also to the experts as a short but very steep section.

With their key figures, the "ERTA" can be quite impressive and does not need to fear comparisons with other prestigious racing circuits. The start is at 1.605 m above sea level on the Piz de Plaies and is served by the same named cable car. The goal, on the other hand, is 1.200 m on the "Pedagà" slope and thus has a height difference of 405 m with a length of 1.325 m.

Also impressive is the slope, with an average of 32% with a lowest inclination of 22% and a maximum inclination of 61% on the "Gran Para" slope in the middle part of the track. On the "ERTA" track, which was built in 2003 on the initiative of winter pioneer Erich Kastlunger, has hosted some editions of the FIS European Cup, both GS and SL. Among others, Marcel Hirscher (AUT), Marcus Sandell (FIN), Alexander Ploner (ITA), Florian Eisath (ITA) and Kalle Palander (FIN) were the winners.

The family ski run Skihütte starts at the Rossalm and leads along a narrow path to the valley station of the SSL Pfannspitz. In the lower part, this slope leads through the forest, but is still mainly in the sun. The natural lines of the family downhill run make it a varied skiing experience. The different variants - a part is also signposted as a red slope - make this slope interesting.

Rungg – the idyllic children skilift in South Tyrol

Large lift facilities made of cement and steel have not yet been allowed in the Lüsen Valley. The inhabitants prefer to live a more natural and authentic lifestyle and only allow modern facilities into the valley which offer an improvement, but don’t disturb the quiet atmosphere. However, there is a children’s ski lift in Rungg, where parents and skiing instructor teach children how to ski. The lift facility also has a ‘magic carpet’ (conveyor belt for beginners) at the children’s park. The ski lift in Lüsen is a winter oasis for kids.

From the top station of the skilift to the bottom station, on both sides of the skilift (access to the skilift from the bridge at the bottom station of the cable car. Follow the skitrail). These trails are very good beginner slopes as they are short, easy and gentle. There is a slope on both sides of the skilift.

Piste No. 10 is flat in the upper part and offers plenty of space to fully enjoy every single turn. The piste stretches as a blue run to the valley station of the Rossalm chairlift. However, the training slope becomes interesting for experienced skiers in a variant of the second section. This is steeper and more demanding and thus offers the ideal challenge, especially for training groups.

The history of the World Cup in Dolomites Val Gardena goes back to the 1970s. The Saslong slope is one of the most beautiful and well-known stages of the world cup, what with its famous and feared ‘camel hump’ and speeds of up to 100 km an hour. The Ski World Cup took place in 1970 in Dolomites Val Gardena, among other places; on that occasion the whole skiing world set its eyes on the Saslong slope.

Sellaronda anti-clockwise
39.6 km

The circuit crosses the 4 Dolomite passes - Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena - and 5 famous resorts: Corvara and Colfosco in Alta Badia, Arabba, Canazei and Selva di Val Gardena. In 2020, the Sellaronda was awarded the title of 'best ski tour' by the portal skiresort.de. Alta Badia is the ideal starting point to begin the tour, which can be done clockwise or anticlockwise: either way, you will cross 40 km of beauty and enchantment, surrounded by the extraordinary Dolomite landscapes. Clockwise the signs are orange, anticlockwise green.  The slopes are suitable for skiers of average experience in good physical condition. For those who wish to dare more, there are some 'disgressions', such as the Gran Risa giant slalom slope in La Villa in Alta Badia or the Saslong descent in Santa Cristina in Val Gardena.  To complete the Sellaronda, one must calculate about 6 hours between descents, ascents and breaks included.

Some data:

  • Total length: 40 km (lifts and slopes)
  • Slopes: 26 km
  • Ascent time on the lifts: approx. 2 hours - calculate that waiting times are possible
  • Average duration of descents: approx. 1.5 hours

The Sellaronda is a top-class ski circuit. Winter sports enthusiasts can expect magnificent views of the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomites, long descents on mostly intermediate slopes, and plenty of opportunities to stop at cozy mountain huts. When you add up the chairlift rides and the descents on the slopes, you cover more than 40 kilometers in about 4 hours. However, you can add as many lifts and slopes as you like. The ski circuit is signposted in both directions, but this tour follows the green markings and goes counterclockwise. The green route offers slightly easier slopes compared to the clockwise-running orange route, but both ski circuits are manageable for average skiers with sufficient stamina.
