For all who love nature and culture: discover the Freud Promenade, the first and only path in the world dedicated to Sigmund Freud (2006).
In the summer of 1911, Freud spent his holidays on the Ritten together with his wife Martha Bernays, his daughters Mathilde, Sophie, and Anna, his sons Ernst, Oliver, and Martin, and his sister-in-law Minna. Here, he began working on Totem and Taboo and exchanged his final letters with Carl Gustav Jung.
The path gently winds from Klobenstein, passing through Lichtenstern, to Oberbozen, offering breathtaking views of the majestic Dolomites. As you walk and pause along the way, you can still feel that special sense of quiet and beauty that made Freud exclaim: «Divinely charming, Ritten!»

Interesting sights along the route
The Forest Church in Lichtenstern was built in the mid-1950s, and renovated in 2016/2017. The altar is positioned in the central axis of the nave; the crucifix and tabernacle sculpted by Josef Rainer complete the interior.
Josef Mayr-Nusser: Josef Mayr-Nusser (1910–1945) was buried in Lichtenstern church for nearly 60 years. A conscientious objector on religious grounds, he was prosecuted in Danzig for refusing to swear allegiance, and sentenced to death by firing squad in Dachau. He died during the journey on February 24, 1945. After his beatification on 18 March 2017, he was laid to rest in the Bozen Cathedral parish church.
Easy walk, also suitable for strollers. At halfway in Lichtenstern, there is also the option to board the Ritten Railway if the walk on foot is too long.

Roadbook
The Freud Promenade begins just above the train station in Klobenstein. The trail (no. 35) leads out from Klobenstein train station and over the train station bridge, followed by a sharp turn-off to the left and a short stretch on to a roundabout. Continue onwards on the pavement towards Oberinn, turn left, cross a road and you will arrive at the beginning of the walk. The trail leads through the woodland and a bridge, a few houses and a roadside cross alongside a bend to the left. Shortly afterwards, turn right, continue onwards past the Viehweider Hof farm, and you will come to Lichtenstern with its magnificent views of the Dolomites. After a short stretch on the asphalt road, continue along the promenade route until you arrive at the “Alten Mühlweg” and the “Linzbach” station of the railway Ritten. The pavement to your left leads to Oberbozen train station.
Along the way, thirteen benches invite visitors to linger: each is inscribed with aphorisms from Freud’s writings. The walk along the Freud Promenade in the other direction, from Oberbozen to Klobenstein, is also wonderful.
