Perched dramatically on a steep rocky outcrop, the medieval ruins of Haderburg Castle overlook the surrounding landscape and offer a fascinating glimpse into South Tyrol’s history. Built in the first half of the 13th century, the castle is now considered one of the region’s most important historical landmarks.
The trail leading up to the castle winds through beautiful scenery and rewards hikers with stunning views of the Adige Valley and the surrounding mountains. Once at the top, visitors can explore the ancient walls, towers and courtyards while soaking up the unique atmosphere of this historic site.
The castle is also home to a traditional tavern, where visitors can take a well-deserved break and enjoy food and drinks. The castle and tavern are open to the public from Easter until All Saints’ Day. Throughout the year, the historic setting also provides a backdrop for a variety of musical, literary and traditional folk events.
The hike is suitable for families with children and is an excellent choice for anyone looking to combine nature, history and culture.
Good to know: The trail includes steep and uneven sections and is not suitable for pushchairs or strollers. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

You start from the car park in the village square of Salorno. The walk leads to the centre of the village and after 100 m turn right onto the "Sentiero delle visioni” (path of visions) that, after following slightly uphill hairpin bends and going through a deciduous wood, you arrive directly at the entrance of the castle and, up some stairs, straight inside the fortress. "Hail to thee!" This is the welcome that awaits you at Salorno Castle, a place where the medieval atmosphere and the views over the Bassa Atesina can be savoured and enjoyed. In the large courtyard there is a medieval tavern where the castle innkeeper spoils his guests with the food and drink of our ancestors.
