This bike ride runs along the route of the former Fleimstalbahn and right through untouched nature reserves, such as the Castelfeder biotope, or the smallest and most species-rich nature park in South Tyrol, the Trudner Horn Nature Park.
Starting from the Adige cycle route in the valley and through splendid fruit and vineyards, we pass the historic wine villages of Auer, Pinzon and Montan. Via the small mountain village of Kaltenbrunn we reach the San Lugano Pass. Along the way we experience contrasts and the symbiosis of alpine and Mediterranean. The Fleimstalbahn was built during the war years 1916-1917 and served as a supply and logistics line in World War I. It ran from Auer to Predazzo. The section from Auer to St. Lugano is very well preserved and cyclists can repeatedly enjoy unique views over the entire lower region. Particularly interesting on this pleasure bike ride is the connection to wine. While in Auer, with its maze of alleys, the Lagrein, an indigenous grape variety of South Tyrol, finds particularly favorable conditions, we pass through Vill near Neumarkt at the picturesque - hilltop - castle of the Barons von Longo, who have been cultivating wine for over 400 years. At the Glener Viaduct, in the middle of the nationally known Pinot Noir growing area, we can enjoy the first South Tyrolean wine cinema. Estates like Pfitscher, Castelfeder, Girlan, Thaler etc. have their vineyards here. We can also observe how South Tyrolean wine pioneers like Franz Haas try their hand even in the higher locations (Aldein or Truden).
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
